A year ago, on July 17, 2014,
Malaysian Airlines flight MH17
was shot down over eastern Ukraine.
Let us take a moment of silence to remember the 298 innocent people,
including our sister Phil Tiernan rscj,
who perished in that tragic act of violence.
We also call to mind the countless victims of injustice all over the world,
and pray that all forms of violence would end.
In silence, we unite our hearts as we pray for PEACE.
May the dawn of peace break through the darkness of violence.
May the sun of justice dry the tears of all who suffer.
May transforming waters touch hardened hearts.
May the flames of hope remain alive in those who put their trust in God.
On this day of remembrance,
according to our contexts and capacities,
let us offer an "act of peace."
May these gestures of peace
create ripples of hope
in our wounded world.
