This past Sunday, our Superior General, Barbara Dawson, gave a reading at the Easter Sunday Mass celebrated by Pope Francis, held at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
Below is the text of what she read:
A reading from the 1st letter from St. Paul to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 5:6-8).
You must know how even a small amount of yeast is enough to leaven all the dough. So get rid of all the old yeast and make yourself into a completely new batch of bread, unleavened as you are meant to be. Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed. Let us celebrate the feast by getting rid of all the old yeast of evil and wickedness, having only the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
When asked how it felt to take part in the Easter Mass, Barbara replied:
It was quite powerful to be part of this Easter celebration and to proclaim the Word about bread, and yeast, sincerity and truth. In a mysterious way it felt like a call to us as Society as well as a call to the people of God. Pope Francis’s Urbi et Orbis message of solidarity to work towards healing our blessed and broken world inspired me and gave me hope.
