On Saturday, May 24, 2025, an event to celebrate the centenary of the canonization of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat took place in Rome, organized by the Province of BFN and the Emmanuel Community at Trinità dei Monti. This celebration brought together many participants who came to honor the foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart in a place steeped in history and open to the Eternal City.
The day began with a fraternal welcome in the church of Trinità dei Monti, in the presence of the relics of Saint Madeleine Sophie and Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus.
Julien Béchard then gave a rich and enlightening talk on the spirituality of the Sacred Heart in Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat and Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face. By comparing the spiritual experience of the Heart of Christ as lived by each of the two saints, he highlighted the richness of their respective approaches, rooted in intimacy with Jesus. For forty-five minutes, he brought out the theological depth of their faith.
After his talk, Agnès Ramé gave a moving testimony about her personal relationship with Saint Madeleine Sophie and the tangible impact the saint has had on her own life. It was a powerful moment, marked by simplicity and gratitude.
A votive Mass was then celebrated in honor of Madeleine Sophie, followed by a moment for the veneration of her relics, in an atmosphere of prayerful devotion.
The students of the Sacred Heart Institute at the Trinità dei Monti school ended the celebration with a concert combining sacred and secular music, bringing an artistic and joyful touch to the day.
Finally, a cocktail reception on the terrace overlooking Rome allowed everyone to continue their conversations in a convivial atmosphere while admiring the exceptional view of the city.
This centenary was an opportunity to revive the spiritual heritage of Madeleine Sophie Barat and to appreciate how much her message remains alive, universal, and full of hope.
