Session of the European Novices: “In the footsteps of Madeleine Sophie Barat in Paris” and The Interior Life

The novices of Europe gathered in Paris
on the 28th to the 31st of October 2019.

Ági (CEU), Irene (ES), Caroline (BFN), Cili (CEU), and Urszula (POL) gathered in Paris to walk together in the footsteps of Saint Madeleine-Sophie Barat from the time of her arrival in Paris until her death in the French capital. Together they also journeyed to discover what the interior life is.

The mornings of the first two days were dedicated to the discovery of the story of Madeleine Sophie and the congregation, thanks to the expert and valuable assistance of Françoise Belpaire (BFN), with translation into Polish by Agnieszka Wlodarczyk (POL). The afternoons were spent visiting several landmarks of the Society: the Hôtel de Vassé, the Passage des Postes, the Hôtel Biron (which is currently the Rodin Museum), the Rue Monsieur, and others.

The last day of the session focused on the theme of the interior life. Novice Directors Noëlle (BFN) and Asia (POL) suggested that they read some passages from Madeleine Sophie’s letters. These paragraphs were the starting point for deep exchanges and time for various questions about the reality of the interior life.

The two novitiates were warmly welcomed by the community of Lowendal, whom they heartfully thanked.
