JPIC and the “Sustainable Development Goals Report 2018”

Climate Change, Conflict, Inequality, Persistent Poverty, Rapid Urbanization, and Environmental Degradation. These are some of the JPIC challenges highlighted in the United Nations’ 2018 Sustainable Development Goals Report.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their targets were created by UN member States (our governments) and civil society (our peoples). To achieve these goals by 2030 is the global agenda and common responsibility of all UN States. While the UN agenda is global, its achievement is experienced by people in their national and local contexts.

As the Society of the Sacred Heart increasingly responds to our Call to Be and Act as One Body, our contribution to the global achievement of the SDGs becomes more effective. Let us recommit to working together for world peace, justice, and human dignity for all by bringing to this international forum our national and local experiences.

Question for reflection:
How might the Call to Be and Act as One Body,
and our upcoming International JPIC meeting
inform the ways we work at the UN?
