Border Compassion is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting migrants and asylum seekers at the Posada del Migrante Shelter in Mexicali, Mexico, just a mile from the U.S.-Mexico border. Founded in 2021 by Sr. Suzanne Jabro, the organization mobilizes faith communities, volunteers, and resources to address the urgent needs of families fleeing violence, poverty, and instability in their home countries. Through regular border crossings, Border Compassion delivers essential supplies, health care, legal aid, and emotional support, creating a network of solidarity and hope for those in limbo as they await the next chapter of their lives.

A key leader in this mission is Lisa Buscher, RSCJ, who serves as Border Compassion’s Crossover Engagement Animator. Lisa plays a vital role in accompanying volunteers across the border each month and fostering meaningful encounters between volunteers and shelter residents. Drawing on her own childhood experiences in Arizona and her deep commitment to social justice, she helps create a sense of joy and healing amid the uncertainty and trauma faced by migrants.
