In the midst of the poverty and violence suffered by the Haitian people, our sisters continue their activities in Balan both in the Clinic and in the Fe y Alegria School, which is under our care.
Matilde shares with us a beautiful celebration that finds joy in the midst of this broken and blessed reality:
Friday, April 9, 2021 was a very important day for our school. We finally have a nice dining room with tables and chairs for 100 people. We had a nice and simple blessing ceremony. Before, the children had to eat standing up, holding their plate with one hand and eating with the other. Now they can eat like this, each seated with a place at the table. Of course, on this day there was feast food, chicken and other things. Some took the piece of chicken wrapped in their napkins to share at home. The meal at school is the only meal they have each day.
Our next challenge is to give them milk and a piece of bread with peanut butter when they arrive in the morning. That way they would have a good source of protein because chicken is really for the holidays.
