On December 12th, the Children of the New Dawn School, a school for indigenous children, celebrated the feast of St. Madeleine Sophie with the children of class 1 to class 11.

On May 25, 2025, a Eucharistic celebration was held at the Villa Lante to celebrate the Feast of Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat, as well as the hundredth anniversary of her canonization on May 24.

Today, 12th December 2019, is the 240th birth anniversary of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat.

On May 25th we gratefully celebrate the Feast of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat, the foundress of the Society of the Sacred Heart: a woman of God for the world.

Her life was made of threads woven by the Hand and Love of God….

… she spent her days before the Great Fire, and warmed them all with the Flame that consumed her. And they saw the Fire in her eyes when she looked at them. And they felt the Fire in her trembling old hands…. They called her “The Woman Who Always Prays.”

This is the prize-winning entry in a competition among all the 50 Sacred Heart Schools in Spain, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Sophie’s death.

This portrait of St. Madeleine Sophie Barat is located in the General Archives of the Society in Rome. Its origin is unknown, though there are indications that it may have been sent to the Mother House in Paris from Italy in 1879.
